Imagine you’re at the ripe old age of 70.  You feel the whirl of life passing you by and reach into your old family books to remind you of the beautiful memories that lay deep in your mind.. You pull out an album and blow off the dust, smiling with wonder as you trace your fingers over the old leather.  As you pour through the happy moments that are frozen among the pages, you reminisce back to the time that you spent weeks on end breastfeeding in bed with your first baby and partner by your side; you remember back to the second year of your daughter’s life where she learned  how to go potty like a big girl; or the time that your family laughed together while making pancakes for breakfast…

These are the things that I want you to want from me, not just pictures of how you look at one moment in time.

Recently I’ve had a lot of epiphanies about how I want to structure my sessions and what I want to give to my clients.  In lieu of my refreshed artistic vision, one of my fave families let me try something new with them last month to capture their sweet Avery turning 2!  We literally just spent the morning hanging out together as they went through their normal Sunday routine and then took a few birthday balloons to the park for something fun.  I am so amazed that even at just two years old Avery is blaring with personality – she cooked me faux pizza in her toy kitchenette; we ‘talked to Candice’ on the phone; I watched in as they brushed their teeth together and read to Avery;  we laughed as she admired her own reflection in the mirror and wiped away her tears as she learned the painful lesson of loss while watching her beloved balloons float away into the clouds… It was some of the most fun family sessions I’ve had to date 🙂  Anyway, here are but just some of the highlights of that day in hopes that it gives you a little inspiration about the things that you want to remember from this life…

… and because all too often we forget that the tears are just as beautiful as the smiles 🙂

  1. Avery's mom says:

From the corkscrew curls, to the sparkly shoes, from the outside looking in to the smiling reflection – you got it all. Thanks for coming into our lives, Suzy, if only for a day and blessing us with a lifetime of memories.

    Forever grateful,
    The Buckley Family

I especially (being a mom of 3) love images of the parents interacting/consoling/guiding their child because those are moments that we don’t see ourselves doing. I 100% agree that images like this will recall more feeling and emotion than a backdrop-posed image would. These would be gorgeous in an story album.

  3. Aunt Heather says:

    Suzy,
As always you capture our beautiful Avery at her best! I love the pictures of my baby brother holding his little girl and seeing how he looks at her. Of course, the loving kisses from mommy make all the tears go away. Thank you for continuing to work with our family and taking beautiful pictures. As always, they are wonderful!
