Hi, I'm Suzy, a photographer, mentor and mom of 3. I'm so glad you're here.

Looking for chicago family photographers?

I usually do an end-of-the-year blog post with highlights from all of the year’s photoshoots, but I wanted to do something different this time around and share photos from the most memorable weekend I had in 2017.

On July 27th of this year, my dad died. 2 days later I had a weekend of mini sessions I’d already planned before I knew when he was going to make his final transition. I really struggled with whether or not to shoot still, but ultimately I decided to move forward with the event as planned. I poured my entire heart into every photo I took, each day I finished I fell into my steering wheel and sobbed. I drooled on myself as I gut wrenchingly cried on the drive home. It was incredibly painful for me, but I was also really happy I made the decision to not reschedule. Each family brought a half hour of genuine joy to me that I would not have otherwise experienced had I chosen to stay at home. I wanted to share with you some highlights from that weekend as we all say goodbye to 2017, and to say thank you, from the bottom of my heart. For every bit of support I’ve received from my clients, my family, my friends, and the entire team at Monica + Andy. I couldn’t have survived this last year without it.

The Artist

Suzzane
brown

For nearly two decades, I’ve worked with individuals and families who understand the value of time. And the importance of preserving it well.

My work centers on creating living archives: carefully composed records of a life as it’s being lived. Not performances. Not surface moments. But the relationships, environments, and details that define a legacy.

I approach each commission with the eye of an artist and the discipline of a documentarian. Listening closely. Observing deeply. Shaping work that is meant to endure. Crafted on film, finished as heirloom objects, and designed to be held in your hands, lived with in the home, and passed down in your private family vault.

This is not photography for the present moment.

It is art made in service of memory, history, and the generations that follow.
