So every now and again when I’m shooting a baby, a family or even a wedding, I’ll capture not only one single moment frozen in time but also a sequence of images that make up one moment. This past weekend I had one of those instances and I couldn’t resist sharing!
On Sunday I had the pleasure of revisiting a family who gets together once a year for BIG family group photos – I’m talking the works! Grandma, grandpa, the aunts, uncles and cousins.. well, you get the idea. Once we were done taking pictures the parents rewarded the kids’ good behavior and cooperation by allowing them to let loose at a nearby playground. There was one point when I saw the baby of the bunch, Avery, having fun under the jungle gym of climbing ropes – I watched her as she looked up at the kids playing on top of the structure above her (perhaps wondering what the heck they were doing and was there any way she could get up there??) and then that’s when I noticed it, the ‘moment.’ Her face suddenly lit up as she saw her mama on the other side of the jungle gym and she ran toward her, puckered those adorable little fishy lips and reached up for a big smooch through the ropes. I love that kids are so innocent and haven’t been jaded by the evils in this world, they are so perceptive and reactive to both people and emotions (and most of all, love!). Although Avery went in for that kiss it was as if she was so taken back by how awesome it felt to get that tender love that only a mom knows how to give, that she jumped backward and grabbed her own shirt in excitement as she let out a bellow of laughter. Seconds later she noticed me and my camera and posed.
