Hi, I'm Suzy, a photographer, mentor and mom of 3. I'm so glad you're here.

Had a newborn session with 8 day-old sweet baby Alyssa and it was fantastic.  Finally the summer light is starting to come back (normally througout the year Vasili and I always find ourselves crammed up against poorly lit windows because of the unpredictably terrible Chicago weather)!   Though I don’t know what I was more happy about – the fact that it was a gorgeous day outside or that little A just naturally seemed to snuggle up into each pose.  And then, just when I thought she couldn’t get any cuter… I snapped the last photo, looked up at Vasili and said “Well, that’s it! I got all I need” only to look down and see her lifting up her arms into a big stretch as if she understood just as well that we were finished.

As usual I took her to mom & dad so they could dress her before having some family time.  I photographed them hanging out for a bit and then I began to hear a guitar playing from downstairs.  Apparently Vasili had found Chris’ guitar (though I should probably note that Chris & Kelly are our friends and so it’s not typical that Vasili would just rummage through people’s things lol).  We went downstairs and listened to V play a few songs and I asked Chris if he played as well.  He said yes and instantly I thought about getting some shots of him playing to Kelly and Alyssa but didn’t want to bother them to go back upstairs.. No, no. I want to get that shot, it’ll take me 5 minutes.. They had the same hesitation but then I impulsively said, “Nah let’s do it!”

I’m so glad I did 🙂

The Artist

Suzzane
brown

For nearly two decades, I’ve worked with individuals and families who understand the value of time. And the importance of preserving it well.

My work centers on creating living archives: carefully composed records of a life as it’s being lived. Not performances. Not surface moments. But the relationships, environments, and details that define a legacy.

I approach each commission with the eye of an artist and the discipline of a documentarian. Listening closely. Observing deeply. Shaping work that is meant to endure. Crafted on film, finished as heirloom objects, and designed to be held in your hands, lived with in the home, and passed down in your private family vault.

This is not photography for the present moment.

It is art made in service of memory, history, and the generations that follow.
