engagement

Hi, I'm Suzy, a photographer, mentor and mom of 3. I'm so glad you're here.

For me, this ‘engagement session’ was extra special – not only did I get to spend time meeting my good friend’s fiance (or husband, technically!), but we got to spend our afternoon together walking around the campus where we all went to college (yes, all three of us went to Loyola!).  Brittany & Luai actually met at Loyola during our undergrad years there and since we were all pre-med at one time (ha can you believe I once planned on being a reconstructive surgeon??) the library held tons of memories for us.  In addition to the fact that we’re all such nerds and spent an exorbitant amount of time there, I just love the way that old books smell and the powerful feeling of being surrounded by the works of so many great authors.  We also laughed a lot as we walked along the lakefront and memory lane – how Britt & Luai first met in Biochem; our first encounter in Biology 101 lab and how we instantly bonded over M&Ms and DNA; or how the squirrels that roam campus are freakishly comfortable with people. Anyway here are some of my favorites from the session.  Seriously it’s not even fair how easy it was to photograph these two!  It was the perfect weather and thanks to B’s amazing sense of style, they looked like a walking Banana Republic ad.  Thanks B&L for hanging out with me and making me feel like I was in college again, to forget for even a moment that I’m actually an adult now (or am I even..? lol).

The Artist

Suzzane
brown

For nearly two decades, I’ve worked with individuals and families who understand the value of time. And the importance of preserving it well.

My work centers on creating living archives: carefully composed records of a life as it’s being lived. Not performances. Not surface moments. But the relationships, environments, and details that define a legacy.

I approach each commission with the eye of an artist and the discipline of a documentarian. Listening closely. Observing deeply. Shaping work that is meant to endure. Crafted on film, finished as heirloom objects, and designed to be held in your hands, lived with in the home, and passed down in your private family vault.

This is not photography for the present moment.

It is art made in service of memory, history, and the generations that follow.
