I'm Suzy of Simply by Suzy, and I'm so happy you're here at my blog because I can't wait to serve you with lots of good stuff like a peek into all of my favorite photoshoots for clients, freebies and resources on motherhood, how to get more connected with your life, and how to take beautiful pictures of it.
Birth is something that comes up a lot at my sessions since I work with so many new parents. Specifically, I often get asked about the home births that I attend. Usually some where in the conversation it gets said how scary it seems, what if something were to go wrong? This ever present misconception that home birth is this scary and seemingly unsafe way to bring your baby into the world makes me all the more thankful that this family is allowing me to share some photos of their second home birth so that I can give you a tiny glimpse into what a real home birth is like and that it really isn’t so scary after all. In fact, I feel like the complete opposite is true – home birth can be such an amazing experience. If your labor lasts all day or more you can simply spend your time laboring in the comfort of your own bed or couch; eat snacks and drink coconut water all day, labor in a nice warm tub; have all of your family there with you if you want; and best of all, right after baby is born you can hop right out of that tub and snuggle up in bed together. You might also be surprised to hear that research shows so long as you live within 30 minutes of a hospital, if an emergency situation required you to go to the hospital then you would get right into that O.R. in the same amount of time as someone who has been laboring in a hospital. Cool huh?
With all that being said, I don’t think a home birth is right for everyone. I fully believe in the idea that whatever each family needs to enjoy their birth experience is the right thing – whether it means at home, in the water, in a hospital, with or without an epidural and so on and so on..
But, for those of you who think home birth is this crazy whack-a-doodle crunchy idea that only totally ridiculous people choose to do, I wanted to set the record straight as to how safe and wonderful home birth can be and actually is 🙂
Anyway, scroll down for some of my favorite images from baby Clara’s birth day that I am so grateful to be able to share. Congrats you guys on baby #2!! And thank you SO so much for allowing me the utmost honor and privilege of being there to witness it. Seriously, so amazing.
xoxo
(as a side note, you may recognize the amazing birth team in the images below. I’ve worked with them for all of my births but one and they are truly the best. Shout out to Gentle Birth Care, can’t wait to have you ladies be there to help welcome my own babies into the world one day!)
