There are so many things that working with this family reminded me of..
One of which was a favorite quote as put so eloquently by a friend and fellow photographer, David Wittig, who said “Photography is really about trust, and there aren’t a lot of shortcuts to getting someone to trust you. You have to spend time with them.” Through my work I’ve come to find that it’s easy to take a photograph, but to truly capture the essence of who a person or family is.. that is the hard part. And that kind of craftsmanship takes good ole’ time and patience, which leads to the trust and beautiful artwork.
Speaking of trust, this family was super sweet enough to let me come over to their place a few different times to let their 2 year old, Grace, really get to know and trust me and make for an even better session to celebrate her new baby sister’s arrival. But I think it was Grace who ended up charming me more than I her – even at just 2 years old she is already a budding photographer; she has the most darling ballerina moves; and Grace enjoys changing her own ‘baby’s’ diaper while mama changes baby sister’s. She is such an awesome little person already.
Anyway, here are a few favorite images from my time with Grace and the rest of her family now that baby sister is finally here. Thanks and congrats again you guys for your trust, kindness and hospitality! xoxo
